Caring and Development - Connect Team Development with Relational Intelligence!

Employee engagement has become one of the most important indicators of gauging work satisfaction. In a study of companies with over 500 employees, researchers found that 71% of managers felt that employee engagement was one of the most important factors in overall company success.

What are the pillars of engagement?

Officevibe the engagement intelligence platform defines 10 key metrics of engagement and when you look in each one of the metrics you quickly realize that all connected to  2 larger themes:

Relationships With managers, colleagues, even wellbeing-  Practises that focus on nutrition and fitness is basically they way employers show they care.

Development  - Personal growth, feedback, recognition, and happiness

How caring connect to development?

Every day people from different perspectives, backgrounds, and beliefs spend so many hours together at work.

Our work is becoming more and more collaborative, we have to rely on each other to get things done. We need to initiate meetings, manage them, understand our feelings and others, and depend on others not just to move projects forward. But we also depend on others when it comes to our growth and development.

To step out of our comfort zone, make mistakes, adopt new habits and all the uncomfortable things humans need in order to grow will be much easier in a supporting and caring environment.

Relational Intelligence is our ability as humans to connect with others and establish trust. In the new world, where every technical skill is one tutorial away, the behavioral skills are the competitive advantage of companies.

Our personal and team’s abilities to connect and influence others, build trust, manage conflict, and communicate effectively are more important than ever.

When building relationships and trust the most basic thing we can do is to communicate that we care for each other.

How to connect caring and development?

  1. Focus on Behavioural skills  - Bring content and learning opportunities that develop People as humans not just as good workers.
  2. Create safe space - no judgment, there are no stupid questions, easier to start with a small team and go from there.
  3. Bring people together - set up rituals that people can come together and connect with each other if you want to form new behavioral habits, the key is the group.
  4. Build anticipation - send teasers, small theme gifts,  and don't be afraid to show vulnerability and excitement
  5. Create accountability - If you want people to attend and enjoy the routines it's important that they will have a meaningful part in the planning and facilitation As the best way to learn is to teach.
  6. Feedback- Use surveys and team assessments to identify issues, to understand where you need to improve as a team, or maybe clarify why you do things the way you do.
  7.  Reflection and recognition-  Sometimes it's hard for people to see how much they grow and they tend to minimize their success. It’s important to set milestones and reflection tools people can go back and see how far they come
